The ERC project ARISER started in June, with a first fieldwork trip in Madagascar. We visited the area north from Tulear, in the South-West of the country. This area is severely striken by drought, the yield of maize, that was the main crop in the area, has decreased severely because of climatic dammages as well as those of the armyworm. We eventually choosed to select a study site in a large alluvial plain, where farmers grow a mix of maize and leguminous crop: cowpea, green gram, or lima bean in association. The surveys will start in june 2023, with two PhD students from France and Madagascar, co-supervised with Dr Verohanitra Rafidison from Antananarivo University and Dr Josoa Randriamalala from ESSA.
